Project 247
Glazed Gable Rear Extension
The existing property had been extended significantly in the past, resulting in a complicated internal layout and inharmonious living spaces. While the existing conservatory offers ample social space within the property, it is not suitable for year-round use due to its heavily glazed nature and the heat loss associated with this. The proposals therefore include the replacement of the conservatory and porch with a single storey extension. Internal remodelling to improve the circulation and usability of existing spaces. This involves raising the kitchen floor level to match other rooms, which significantly improves the continuity between the ground floor living spaces. The extension is proposed to be constructed in reclaimed red brick to complement the white render of the existing house and provide a visual distinction between the old and new. The proposals also include a feature chimney in a modern style which anchors the glazed gable and enhances the character of the property. Planning permission for these proposals was granted in September 2019.
