This project involved the sensitive remodelling of a semi-detached limestone house in the conservation area of Youlgreave. Previously used as a holiday home, the property had become outdated and inefficient. The brief was to create a practical, comfortable home while enhancing its character and thermal performance.
The design respects the building’s traditional materials, including limestone walls, gritstone quoins, timber sash windows, and a blue slate roof. A key intervention was the introduction of a light-filled open-plan kitchen, featuring a corner wraparound window that reconnects the house with the garden.
A new boot room with shower was added to the rear to support everyday use of the back entrance, and the loft was reconfigured to provide an additional bedroom. Replacement windows and doors improve both energy efficiency and the overall appearance, resulting in a home that balances heritage with modern living.
