255_glazed gable extension
This project involved the replacement of a non traditional extension on a converted farm building in the Peak District National Park. Although glazed gables are difficult to achieve within the national park, this design represented enhancement over the previous tired flat roofed extension. The proposed single storey extension creates a new kitchen/dining space, improving the property's functionality without the need to significantly enlarge the overall footprint. A fully glazed gable allows for the space to be filled with plenty of natural light, and the oak surrounds complement the original property while introducing a contemporary edge to the property's appearance. The glazed extension maximises views out across the property's gardens, and bi-folding doors around the extension perimeter blends the boundary between the indoors and outdoors. Overall, the extension has greatly enhanced the enjoyment of the property and given the heart of the family home its own distinct character.
