This project sees the conversion of a group of traditional agricultural buildings at Conksbury Farm in the Peak District into high-quality accommodation; a five-bedroom open market dwelling and a two-bedroom holiday let. The barns had fallen into disuse for over 30 years and the scheme looks to create new use for these historic structures, securing their long-term future through careful adaptation.
Set within a historically rich landscape, the site neighbours two significant heritage assets: the Grade II listed Conksbury Farmhouse to the west, and the remains of a deserted medieval village to the east. The design approach has been shaped by this context, ensuring the character and setting are both preserved and enhanced.
A key principle of the project is material retention. Existing rubble-coursed limestone walls and the blue slate roof are preserved and reused wherever possible. New interventions are deliberately understated, including painted hardwood windows and doors, traditional casement detailing, and lime mortar pointing with brushed joints to maintain the buildings’ historic integrity.
Approved by the Peak District National Park Authority, the project is currently on site, with works progressing.
