remodelling an old schoolhouse
Complete internal and external renovation of a converted former schoolhouse. Situated within the White Peak are of the Peak District National Park, the property was originally a Victorian school house and dates back to the 19th century. It was converted into a residential dwelling in the 90's and a second wing was built perpendicular to the original building. The property had three points of entry without a clear hierarchy or sequencing of spaces. Externally, timber boarded dormers were built into the roof and were lacking finesse in detail. The internal works to the property involved opening up the kitchen space, creating a bright and open space at the heart of the property. Replacement dormers with sash windows maximise light into the bedrooms and landing at first floor while also improving the overall appearance of the property externally. The existing landscape was modified to articulate the entrances giving more prominence to the primary formal entrance and a secondary entrance that is easily accessible from the property's parking area.
